Trip to the Verulamium Museum
On Tuesday 14th June, Year 3 went to the Verulamium Museum in St Albans to learn about everyday life in Roman Britain. We handled artefacts and a few of us dressed up in Roman clothes. Then, we had a great time wandering around the different sections of the gallery, answering questions about the Romans. We were amazed by the very impressive mosaics on display!
In the afternoon, we walked up to the hypocaust (underfloor heating system) and looked closely at the stunning mosaic that covered it, and then we finished off our visit by seeing the original wall built in Roman times. We really enjoyed our day here and learnt so much!

Visit to Celtic Harmony Camp - Tuesday 26th April 2022
On Tuesday 26th April, Year 3 went to Celtic Harmony near Hertford to learn more about the Celts. We painted symbols on our faces with blue paint and made a headband by twisting reeds together. When we were inside the roundhouse, we trained to be warriors and used shields in our formation! Next, we practised archery and completed a quest in the woods by solving some tricky riddles and decoding runes. In the afternoon, we went to market and traded our goods with gems, wood, pottery and wool. It was a fantastic day! Hasnayn and Lily (Poplar Class)
Stone Age Day – 16th November
Our visitor from The Stone Age, Og, brought in a range of artefacts for us to examine. We learned so much about how the people of that period lived. We even had a go at shooting a woolly mammoth with a spear!
Using charcoal, dried clay and turmeric, we mixed them with oil to create our own Stone Age paint and used cotton buds to dab the design to make our own paintings.
We watched a video on different burial chambers and recreated our own burial mound using our classroom tables and chairs.
We all dressed up and had a fantastic day!

Home based learning
TT Rockstars
We have set up a new scheme on TT Rockstars where the children will follow a set programme and automatically progress through levels. Whilst it may initially seem as though the children have gone back to the beginning, those children who know their times tables will quickly progress through the stages until they are at the correct level.
We do expect children to read regularly at home for 10 mins a day as this has a big impact on their learning. Other homework set is there to support and consolidate work in school. We do not expect work at home to take longer than the maximum time given. We understand that on occasion e.g. the family going away for the weekend that homework may not be completed on time.
