Welcome to our Year 6 page
Our class teachers are Miss Coleman (Oak Class), Miss Lundgren (Elder Class), and Mr Keys (Elm Class)
In Year Six, we encourage independent readers and the expectation is that pupils read every day. It is your child's responsibility to choose either a book from home or the classroom to have in school. We recommend that they choose a variety of genre. They are required to record the details in a class reading folder which is periodically checked to ensure that their choices are both suitable and challenging. We will be assessing all of the children over the next few weeks to ensure that they are reading at a suitable level.

Step-Up Transition Workshop
The children in Year 6 had a wonderful day on Wednesday with the Step-up team, a local secondary-school charity, for a day of transition activities. The children worked through sessions on 'identity', 'friendship' and 'journeys'. It was a really engaging and fun day and the step team will be some valuable familiar faces when our children join their different schools.
Visit to St Mary's Church and Highfield Oval - June 2022
First was a trip down to St Mary's Church to learn more about the purpose of a church and its importance to the local community. Our second trip was a fieldwork visit to Highfield Oval where the children surveyed the site and upon return to school, created a digital map on chrome books using the information they collected.
Mexicolore - January 2022
Year Six began their study of the Mayan civilisation with a highly enjoyable visit from 'Mexicolore'. The company used music, dance, drama, costumes, artefacts and crafts to bring Mexican history and culture alive for all the children. Thank you to the PTA for funding this event.
Crucial Crew - October 2021
Last week Year Six children visited St. Albans Fire Station for their 'Crucial Crew' workshop - an innovative and interactive way of delivering personal and safety education messages to 10-11 year old children. Throughout the morning, the children were encouraged to model good behaviour and citizenship through active participation in a range of life scenarios, including First Aid, Rail Safety, Drugs and many other areas.
Bikeability - September 2021
A great week of Bikeability was enjoyed by our Year 6 children. We would also like to thank the Hertfordshire Cycle Training Team for making it a fun and informative safety experience for our children, which will stand them in good stead for their journeys to Secondary School next year!
